Frequently Asked

Why take out a funeral plan?

In the event of sudden death, things are understandably hectic. A funeral plan in this situation serves the purpose of making sure that your loved one is interred in the manner that they wish, and at no additional financial implications in such a trying period.

How does the GYOW funeral plan work?

The GYOW Funeral Plan works in the same manner as others: the payments by the plan holder are placed in a ring-fenced trust fund — in this case, Pittman’s Trustees Ltd — which is then managed by the reputable global financial service giant UBS. This investment increases in value during the course of the life of the holder of the plan, and the total sum at the end of the plan holder’s life is disbursed to a reputable local funeral director who then carefully carries out the funeral as set out by your loved one before their demise.

Can a GYOW funeral plan be transferred?

In summary, yes, GYOW Funeral Plans can be transferred from one person to another. However, this would require the establishment of a direct line of communication with us in order for the required adjustments to be made.

Do GYOW funeral plan customers need to pass a medical fitness test?

Unlike insurance providers, GYOW Funeral Plans do not require our plan holders to pass any medical fitness tests.

Will any change In location affect my funeral plan?

GYOW Funeral Plans cover all locations within the United Kingdom, so as long as you remain within the boundaries of the United Kingdom, your plan will remain active.

What if I move abroad?

GYOW Funeral Plans only apply to the UK. If you move abroad, you could:

  • Transfer the plan to someone resident in the UK
  • Cancel the plan subject to the cancellation terms
  • Keep the plan, in which case, when you pass away, Safe Hands will pay a sum of money to the funeral director overseas that is equivalent to what any UK funeral director would receive
What happens If a plan holder dies away from home but still within the boundaries of the United Kingdom?

GYOW Funeral Plans cover the whole of the UK. Wherever you pass away in the UK, we will arrange for a funeral director from your home town (or from wherever your funeral is to take place) to collect your body. In the unlikely event that the funeral director has to travel further than 25 miles to collect your body, your representatives may be required to pay a fee for additional fuel/transport costs.

What If a plan holder passes on away from home, and outside the United Kingdom?

GYOW Funeral Plans do not cover/include the cost of repatriation. If you are travelling abroad and you take out travel insurance, make sure it covers repatriation. Once your body has been repatriated, we will organise for a funeral director from your home town to collect you from the airport. If the funeral director has to travel further than 25 miles to collect your body, your representatives may be required to pay a fee for additional fuel/mileage costs.

Can I cancel my GYOW funeral plan?

If you cancel your plan within 30 days of purchase, you are entitled to receive a full refund of all monies paid. If you cancel outside of 30 days, a £295 cancellation charge will apply. Note: If you purchased your plan before 1st May 2020, a different cancellation charge may apply (check your T’s & C’s for details).
